Shannon Gibney is a celebrated author known for her poignant and thought-provoking works. Born in 1975 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she was adopted by Jim and Sue Gibney and grew up with her two brothers, Jon and Ben. Gibney's love affair with writing began at a young age, as she crafted "books" about her family's adventures in second grade and later developed a series of stories featuring sibling detectives in fourth grade. The pivotal moment came when she read James Baldwin's Tell Me How Long the Train's Been Gone at 15, which profoundly impacted her life and writing trajectory. She pursued her passion for creative writing at Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with highest honors in 1997. Gibney's experiences at Community High, a nurturing environment that fostered independence and creativity, significantly shaped her growth as a writer.
