Khaled Hosseini is a renowned Afghan-American author and humanitarian, born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. His life was forever changed when his family moved to Iran, then Paris, and eventually sought asylum in the United States, settling in San Jose, California. Hosseini's journey led him to earn a bachelor's degree in biology from Santa Clara University and a medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. He practiced internal medicine for over a decade before turning to writing. His debut novel, "The Kite Runner," released in 2003, catapulted him to international acclaim. He went on to write the bestselling novels "A Thousand Splendid Suns" and "And the Mountains Echoed," earning him numerous awards, including the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. As a Goodwill Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Hosseini continues to advocate for humanitarian causes in Afghanistan through the Khaled Hosseini Foundation.
