Jacqueline Wilson is a celebrated children's author, born in Bath in 1945, but spending most of her childhood in Kingston-on-Thames. She has always been drawn to writing, penning her first novel at the tender age of nine. As a teenager, she began her career in publishing, working for a magazine company and later as a journalist on Jackie magazine, before transitioning to writing novels full-time. One of her most iconic creations is Tracy Beaker, who first appeared in 1991 in The Story of Tracy Beaker, illustrated by Nick Sharratt. This was her first book to be shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award and the British Book Awards. Her subsequent works have garnered widespread acclaim, including The Illustrated Mum, which won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award and the 1999 British Book Awards. Wilson's novels have been consistently recognized for their excellence, with notable wins including the Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award for Double Act. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award, cementing her status as a beloved author. With sales of over 35 million in the UK alone, her books are cherished by young readers worldwide. In 2002, Wilson was awarded an OBE for her services to children's literature.
